(US) Summer Camp Waterfront Staff & Directors


Functie omschrijving

The Fresh Air Fund staff are a group of diverse, motivated and dedicated individuals who share a passion for working with inner-city children. Our staff come from different states, countries, colleges and backgrounds to have a fun, challenging summer and give our campers the experience of a lifetime.

As a member of our waterfront staff, you will be responsible for supervising all instructional and free swim periods as well as all boating sessions at one of our five camps. You will also be responsible for maintaining waterfront and boating facilities in order to comply with all safety codes. As a Waterfront Director, you will organize and direct all swimming activities for campers, and will also be responsible for supervising and training the waterfront staff in water safety and swimming instruction activities.

Job requirements for waterfront staff:

- At least 18 years of age

- Able to work for the entire duration of the summer program

- Previous certification not needed. We will provide American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.

- In order to be eligible for the ARC Lifeguard course, you must be able to:

• Swim 550 continuous yards, using 200 yards of crawl stroke with rhythmic breathing, 100 yards of breaststroke with rhythmic breathing, and 250 yards using either of these two strokes.

• Swim 20 yards, surface dive to 10 feet deep, pick up a ten pound brick, resurface with the brick, and swim twenty yards on back using legs only. You must then exit the water without using a ladder or steps. The task must be completed in 1 minute, 40 seconds.

• Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4–7 feet of water, resurface and swim 5 yards to the side of the pool.

• Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands or arms.

Job requirements for Waterfront Directors:

- At least 21 years of age

- Able to work for the entire duration of the summer program

- Have lifeguard training

- Be certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer

- Have a minimum of three seasons of waterfront experience

- A Water Safety Instructor Certificate is preferred
